Amsterdam is famous for many things, including canals, tulips and beautiful narrow streets. In fact, every tourist can find something just perfect for herself / himself in Amsterdam. However, this city has more than 400 museums! Some of them are the best in entire world.
Probably one of the most famous museum is the Rijksmuseum. In the museum you can admire very impressive art collection, mostly by Dutch artists from the seventeenth century. Furthermore, there is also the largest art historical library in the country. There, you can see various exhibitions on books, catalogues and periodicals. Even the building itself is extremely interesting, as it is listed as the UNESCO heritage. Therefore, if you are there, do not limit yourself only for museums and exhibitions, but take a walk in the garden and admire extraordinary sculptures there. Another great museum is the Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum). Before the Second World War, Amsterdam was a home for very big Jewish community. In the museum you can become familiar with the Jewish history in the Netherlands. On the exhibitions you can also see various historical and ceremonial objects, as well as over 11 000 pieces of art. Furthermore, at the end of the tour it is worth to visit the café located in the building. There, you will be able to try delicious Dutch-Jewish meals. Another museums which is a definite “must see” for everybody who visit Amsterdam is called the Anna Frank House. It is a place dedicated to a small girl, who was hiding together with her family from Nazis during the Second World War. The museum is a perfect place to get an idea of this famous girl writing diary looked like. Furthermore, it is a good opportunity to become more familiar with the atrocities which were committed toward Jewish community during the Second World War. It is important to note that the museum is very popular, therefore the queue is usually very long. In order to avoid it you can either book your ticket online in advance, or reach the place very early in the morning. Another amazing museum, even though a little bit less known, is called FOAM (the full name is FOtografiemuseum Amsterdam). It this place you can see exhibitions by most famous video, multimedia as well as photography artists. It is definitely a perfect place for any fun of a modern art.
